Hardware and instrumentation

The bench, the rack and the thing being measured

We build and commission the instrumentation that tells a plant what it is actually doing, and we say plainly where our work stops and a sibling division's begins.

Book a survey See the shapes of work

A survey is a fixed piece of work and ends in a written scope.

What a fit-out involves

16 weeks
From survey to a commissioned bench, for the longest shape on our menu.
4 divisions
One firm. Each names the sibling that owns the other half of every seam.
1 system
This page and the console behind it are the same palette, the same focus ring and the same motion.

These are shapes of work rather than performance claims. A number on this page describes something we publish a definition for, or it is not on the page.

What we do

Measurement you can defend

An instrument that nobody can trace to a calibration is a number nobody can use. Every loop we commission is handed over with its record.

Protocols, translated

Modbus, and whatever is on the other side of it. Where translation becomes an application, that is the software division's half and we say so.

Racks that somebody else can open

Labelled, documented and built so the next engineer is not us. A bench only we can maintain is a bench we sold you badly.

Where this division stops

Four seams, each naming the sibling that owns the other half. Both sides declare the same seam or the site refuses to build.

  • Modbus on a plant network Segmentation and monitoring are Cyber's half.
  • Deploying devices at scale Fleet enrolment and patching are IT's half.
  • Turning a protocol into an application The application is Software's half.
  • Calibration certificates Ours, and we do not subcontract them.

A stated boundary is worth more than a claimed capability. It is the one sentence a buyer can check before anything is signed.

From the firm's own scope policy, published on every division index.

Questions we get asked first

Do you manufacture?

No. We specify, integrate and commission. Where a part has to be made, it is made by somebody whose name goes on the certificate.

Can you take over a bench somebody else built?

Usually. It starts with a survey, and the survey is allowed to conclude that it should be replaced rather than adopted.

Who holds the documentation afterwards?

You do. It is handed over as files you own, in formats that open without us.

Start with a survey

Tell us what is on the floor now and what it is failing to tell you. A survey is fixed, short, and ends in a written scope you can take to anybody.

Design notes

Shape of the page
An editorial column read once, top to bottom. The rail the console uses becomes a bar across the top, which is the one place in the house a top bar is allowed, because this is a public website rather than a product.
What it leads with
A sentence, not a table. The reading act here is persuasion, and a page that persuades is not a looser console.
Spacing
The most generous of the four settings, on a two-pixel grid. Bigger type, taller controls, more air between sections.
The one bold decision
A gradient, which nothing else in this house may have. It appears in three declared roles and nowhere else, and the pane over it is required to sit on it, because a frosted panel over a flat colour composites to 1.008:1, which is white on white.

What it shares with the console

The same palette solved against the same worst ground, the same achromatic focus ring, the same near-square corners, the same six status marks, the same motion rungs with every exit under 250 milliseconds. Only the profile differs, and a profile may move twenty-three values and no others.

What is illustrative here

The division is real and so are its boundaries. The three figures describe shapes of work that the firm publishes definitions for; none of them is a performance claim, and there is no customer quotation on this page, because a testimonial nobody gave is not a design element.
