Night staff nurse 04:55
Bay 1 is on two-hourly turns overnight and I swapped the mattress in bed 3 at 02:00, after the pressure score went to 16. Skin checked at 04:30, sacrum intact. The turn chart is behind the door, not on the trolley.

Night registrar 06:20
Bed 8 is medically fit. Pharmacy hold her take-home medicines and transport comes at 11:00. The discharge summary still needs a consultant signature, so it will not leave with her unless someone catches the ward round.

Night healthcare assistant 06:38
Bed 21 had an unwitnessed fall at 03:15 walking to the toilet. No injury found, neurological observations normal at 04:00 and 06:00, incident report filed. The bed is at its lowest and a sensor mat is down. She will not use the frame, so she needs eyes on her when she stands.

Night charge nurse 06:52
Bed 12: the early warning score went from 3 to 6 at 05:40 on a new oxygen requirement. The registrar reviewed at 05:55, sepsis screen sent, first antibiotics given at 06:05. Repeat lactate is due at 08:00 and her daughter is expecting a call before 09:00.

Day charge nurse 07:02
Bed 17 needs a repeat group and save before theatre at 09:30. The 22:00 sample haemolysed and the lab will not accept it, so the slot goes if the new sample is not with them by 08:15.

Design notes
- Shape of the page
- A side rail, a top bar and one work area, for a team that comes back to the same screen every twelve hours.
- What it leads with
- Four figures, each stating how it has changed since the last handover. A number with nothing to compare it against does not go up there.
- Spacing
- Tight, on Fluent's compact setting, so a shift's worth of notes fits on one screen.
- The one bold decision
- The notes hold the main column and the figures sit to one side. What a nurse wrote at 06:52 outranks every count on the screen.
- Where the colour comes from
- Every colour, corner, timing and spacing step is Microsoft's own published Fluent set, taken from the system rather than sampled by eye. The same set supplies the light theme and the dark one.
- Readability, measured
-
The two pairs this page leans on hardest, measured in both themes. Higher is easier to read, and 4.5 is the accessibility floor.
Readability measured in both themes What sits on what Light theme Dark theme Floor The body of a note 15.52:1 14.55:1 4.5:1 The small times and roles under it 6.19:1 6.48:1 4.5:1 - What we added
- Fluent leaves a few widths to whoever is building the screen, so the page sets three of its own: the rail, the side column, and a cap on the reading width so a wide monitor does not stretch a note across the whole screen. The box a nurse types into is set a size larger than the rest, which is the size Fluent gives text somebody writes rather than scans.
